Step aboard our special train, running exclusively on Saturday 26th September, for a memorable day excursion to Ayr with social start and end times.
Our first pick up is the convenient location of Linlithgow, before we head to Edinburgh. At Edinburgh our train reverses to head towards our last pick up of Inverkeithing*, with a large free car park and easy access from the M90.
Travel together in beautifully restored British Rail Mk1 carriages, where spacious seating and large windows make it easy to relax and enjoy the views as they pass. Our train is hauled throughout by Locomotive Services Ltd, British Rail Class 45118 ‘The Royal Artilleryman’ with a supporting locomotive from SRPS fleet.
On board, there’s something for everyone, uur buffet car offers hot and cold drinks, morning rolls and plenty of snacks to keep little travellers smiling throughout the day.
Our journey begins in Linlithgow, where we warmly welcome our first passengers on board before heading towards Edinburgh behind our SRPS locomotive.
At Edinburgh our train reverses to allow 45118 to take control as we depart towards Ayr via Fife. Our next and final pick up location is Inverkeithing but not before we cross the magnificent Forth Bridge — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Scotland’s most recognisable landmarks. This iconic Victorian engineering masterpiece is always a highlight, offering breathtaking views across the Firth of Forth and an unforgettable sense of history.
Our train then continues along the Fife coast before turning in land at Thornton South Jn towards Dunfermline City. Here we divert again and travel along the little used freight only line towards Alloa that skirts along the coast of the River Forth and through the popular Fife Village of Culross.
From Stirling we head towards Cumbernauld and Polmadie. We then travel direct to Ayr via Paisley where our guests have time to get off and explore the historic town on the southwest coast of Scotland.
Ayr – Free Time
We hope to be able to provide approximately 2 hours of free time in Ayr, allowing plenty time to experience everything that the town has to offer.
Return Journey
Our Class 45 takes charge to Carlisle where we say farewell before our SRPS locomotive takes charge and heads back north to Linlithgow and Edinburgh via the best route for pathing.
