SAVE THE DATE!!
Step aboard our special train, running exclusively on Saturday 19th September, for a memorable day excursion to the Highland Capital of Scotland, Inverness.
Travel together in beautifully restored British Rail Mk1 carriages, where spacious seating and large windows make it easy to relax and enjoy the stunning views that the Scottish Highlands has to offer. Our train is hauled throughout by Locomotive Services Limited beautifully restored Class 45, 45118 ‘The Royal Artilleryman’. This locomotive will also be breaking new ground as it heads north into the Scottish Highlands.
On board, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy the comfort of at-seat dining with a hearty breakfast on the outward journey and a delicious three-course evening dinner on the way home. Prefer something more casual? Our buffet car offers hot and cold drinks, morning rolls and plenty of snacks to keep little travellers smiling throughout the day.
On arrival into Inverness you will have time to explore the busy City of Inverness with its many attractions and eateries or sample a dram in a local pub. However you choose to spend your time, this relaxed and enjoyable rail tour offers a wonderful way to travel creating memories that will last long after the journey ends.
Our journey begins in Linlithgow with easy connections by ScotRail from Edinburgh/Glasgow and Stirling. Once we have departed we will travel to Inverkeithing, a convenient boarding location with a large free car park and easy access from the M90. On our way there we cross the magnificent Forth Bridge — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Scotland’s most recognisable landmarks. This iconic Victorian engineering masterpiece is always a highlight, offering breathtaking views across the Firth of Forth and an unforgettable sense of history.
Our next pick-up is the busy town of Kirkcaldy before we arrive at Ladybank. Our final pick up point is the City of Perth with its impressive station building dating from 1848.
Our train North departs Perth and follows the River Tay to Dundee before running alongside the Grampian coastline to Aberdeen, offering some breathtaking views of the North Sea. At Aberdeen our train continues on its journey to Inverness going “across the top” and passing through Keith and Elgin. For the Whisky connoisseurs we pass a number of popular distilleries on route to Inverness.
We hope to be able to provide at least 2 hours of free time in Inverness, allowing plenty time to experience everything that the Highland Capital has to offer.
After our break in Inverness we head back south but this time our locomotive must tackle the demanding Highland Main Line with its steap inclines to Slochd Summit and Drumochter Summit, the highest point on the UK Rail network. As we head south you will be able to sit in comfort and take in some of the most breathtaking railway journeys Scotland has to offer.
Please note that the train may be routed in the opposite direction depending on pathing constraints, ie outward via HML and return via Aberdeen. Please note that SRPS Railtours reserve the right to alter these at any time due to circumstances outside the Company’s control and as a consequence shall not incur any liability for any such alterations.
The train is operated by our Partners at Locomotive Services Limited.
